I wouldn't worry about the lighting. (Obviously the TV soap peoples are disco enthusiasts and decided to have their make-up date at a disco party. Or something, I dunno.)
Speaking of which, with few exceptions, when you choose to do it, your shading is usually very good - it's quite rare that I find problems with it.
